[ She looks a bit -- startled, maybe. Then a beaming smile of joy and relief as she bounds over to him and rests her hands on his chest. ]

Yeah? I'm so glad.

I know I'm not -- refined and elegant and all that, [ the way she sees him ] so I wanted to at least do something for you that's a little up to the standards you deserve.

[ She tugs him over toward the table of drinks and snacks, and the one box sitting on it. ] Then you can have your second gift.

[ When he opens the box he'll find what she promised him forever ago -- a ring. It's made of meteorite and fire opals and shines purple and red when the light catches it. Look even closer, and there are small flying bats embedded into the ring, subtle and barely visible unless you know what you're looking at. Inscribed on the inside is "Advienne que pourra". ]

The inscription means "whatever may come" [ she supplies helpfully ]. So that you'll have something to touch and see and remember that I love you no matter what.

[He turns the ring over to look at it, then slips it onto his left hand. As soon as it's on, he pulls her tight to him in a hug.]

Thank you. Truly, I... thank you.

[He might be a little bit teary-eyed.]

[ don't cry then she'll cry and she's wearing makeup for once! ]

[ She holds him for as long as he needs, offering a gentle squeeze now and then. ]

You don't need to thank me. You do that every day. [ She's a handful and a half and he endures all of it, somehow. ]

[ Her eyes sting, but she manages not to cry. Small miracles do exist. ]

Then I'm glad you have it now. I love you too. [ She gives him a gentle kiss on the cheek, then on his temple. ]

I'm sorry in advance that you'll get questions about it.

I'm not sorry. This is one thing I won't be shy about telling everyone.

[He and Aliza are engaged and it's wonderful.]

[ As long as they're clear that there's no wedding happening! If anything she'd want a little night out with their closest loved ones, but guh even the thought of an actual wedding makes her cringe ]

Good, then. But people are going to ask where mine is. [ Her tone is obviously gently teasing. She doesn't even want a ring, unless it can be worn on a chain. Sword user problems. ]

I could get you something else, if you'd like. Earrings perhaps.

[ She debates saying she doesn't need anything, but it would be nice to have something to twiddle nervously during games and remember that there's something wonderful waiting after the horror show is over. ]

I won't be able to see those. A pendant or a ring on a chain would be nice, if you want to.

[She should have anything and everything she wants, in his opinion.]

[ She picks up one of Lupine's desserts to nibble on now that her nerves are out of the way. ]

Honestly, just cook for me and take me to bed and I'll be happy as could be. I'm simple-minded in that way.

Sounds perfect. And of course I'll return the favor as often as possible.

Whenever my room upgrade goes through, it'll have a private hot springs. For example.

Ohhh, I'll need to test that out. To make sure 'tis as luxurious as you deserve, of course.

Naturally. There's a beach too, moonlit of course. My intention is to set up a nice tent area with a makeshift bed. Maybe I can talk you into sleeping in my dorm more often once that's a thing.

[ Even when she needs to take off and curl up with Venti (and Lupine most of the time) for the night, she does miss him. She's not sure those two things can combine to the same effect... half because she'd be too possessive of Doctor, really. ]

Hopefully the request doesn't take too long. I'll feel better once there's an open space I can be in when necessary. [ Locked in, that is. No more chains that made everyone miserable, possibly no need for mercy kills. ]

It's almost funny, when the thirst first struck me I wasn't sure I'd ever get used to it, let alone like it. You've changed my mind entirely.
