[ No sense in getting the woods all over new clothes. ]

( Night Sky paused. )

I'm going to guess "the river" is the incorrect answer to that question.

There's no wrong answer. But if you'd like me too wash your hair and make it smell nice, we can do that. My starter apartment is still vacant, and it's close enough.

Sure. I'm kind of out of my element here, so I'm going to just put myself in your hands.

Do you know what you want to wear? Colors or anything like that?

( Night Sky followed, glancing down to her outfit made exclusively for outdoorsy expeditions and blending in with greenery. )

Green, I guess? I think I look okay in green. I was going to ask about dresses but I've never worn one in my life and couldn't even begin to figure out what looks good.

Green works. Not my color particularly but I can tell when something looks nice on someone else.

[ She makes her way to an apartment building and enters a door on the second floor. Notably there are three televisions in the living room, all unplugged and gathering dust, though Night Sky might not know what they are to be confused. ]

( Night Sky never went indoors unless it was to drink at a tavern, and even those were often open air or, at the very least, made entirely of wood and also half covered in dirt and leaves to make her feel at home. So the whole apartment building just made her feel claustrophobic, and the televisions were just another oddity she did not- and likely never would - understand. )

You have your own baths in here?

Mmhmm. Each place has one. The house I share with my husband and a few others has three, I think? We've been adding to the place, so I forget the exact number.

[ Saya sits on the edge of the bathtub and starts the water on warm. She pulls down a few towels one of which she spreads on the floor and another of which she rolls up and places on the edge of the tub. ]

Sit on the floor here and lean back so your neck is resting here. Like this... [ she demonstrates resting with the back of her neck on the rolled towel and her head dangling into the bath. ]

Seems like a lot. ( but she wasn't really in a position to judge, and she had no idea how many people actually lived with Saya and her husband. Still.

While preparing the bath, Night Sky took the time to try and get as many sticks and leaves and flowers out of her hair as she could manage, knowing that a proper cleaning beyond just dunking her head into a river every so often would be quite the process with how twisted and tangled her hair was. She stopped only once instructed to sit, and did so with her head positioned over the tub. ) How dumb of an idea is this, by the way? Getting prettied up just to impress someone, I mean.

People who live indoors get used to different things.

[ Saya proceeds to gently wet Night Sky's hair, removing whatever dirt and detritus she can. Then comes the shampoo in a scent of subtle jasmine, during which she very gently works through the tangles. She might not have long hair at present but she has seven feet of hair every so often. ]

Not dumb at all. If he's worth the trouble, he'll appreciate the efforts. And if he's not, it's still not a bad idea to feel pretty just for yourself.

( She closed her eyes after a few moments, soothed by both Saya's touch and the scent of jasmine in the air. Her hair was impressively long when wet, but she knew well enough it would bounce back to the familiar unruly curls the moment it dried.

Night Sky snorted. )

He's a really good guy. So good I didn't even think he was real - thought I just lost too much blood during the Treanpire fight and hallucinated some gallant knight in shining armor carrying me back to the guild when in reality I just drunkenly limped over there.

Apparently I was wrong, and now I just don't want to look... gross. Which is not something I usually worry about.

You don't look gross. You look like you've been living in the woods, which is in no way gross. But I can understand wanting to impress him.

[ Still working on the hair. It might be a little bit. ]

( Night Sky doesn't seem particularly pressed or inclined to rush, even knowing she told Aymeric she might be a couple of hours because she had 'something to do' first. )

I appreciate the vote of confidence, Saya, but it's okay. I know what I am — it's just probably good for me to get my shit together every once in a while, you know? Maybe people will want to be near me if I stink less.

[ Saya works the last of the leaves and sticks out and does a final rinse before applying conditioner. ]

I'm glad if you want to be around people, now. I know that was a worry. [ And maybe a preference. ]

( Her hair already felt weirdly lighter despite being soaked. )

Everyone's been kind enough that I figure I shouldn't try and distance myself. There's no point to it besides my own habit of not wanting to get make them sick.

I'm glad you came to help me. I wouldn't even be considering this without you.

Sometimes habits are hard to break. You're doing fine.

[ Saya wrings out Night Sky's hair and wraps it in a towel, giving it a quick rubbing to dry it a bit. It should curl up nicely with the conditioner she put in. ]

There you go. With your curls you'll probably want it to air dry, so we can go shopping while it does its thing.

( Night Sky sat up, nodding carefully while scrunching her hair up in the towel herself a few times. )

Sounds good. Any idea where to start for a dress? Like... what section of the city, I guess?

I've seen a few shops scattered around. Is there a color or style you're after?

( Style???? Night Sky stares dumbly for a second. )

Uhhh... green and... nice?

Green and nice is doable. I have a store in mind for it. You'll look great in anything they've got.

I trust your judgement far more than my own. Lead the way.

( She'll finish drying her hair first, of course, setting the towel down on the sink. )

[ Once the towel is set aside, Saya leads Night Sky out of the apartment and down the street. ]

Are you sure you trust my judgment? I tend to wear as little fabric as I can get away with. Although admittedly most of that is ease of movement and needing to accommodate my wings when I pull them out.

I wouldn't have asked if I didn't.

( Night Sky shrugged. If given the option, she probably would wear less, too. The woods weren't exactly the safest place to bare skin though.)

I don't know if you noticed, but I dress for trudging through the woods. Going for drinks with a guy probably requires less.
