"It's probably better for you, if I do." Keeping her distance was better for everyone, especially because she wasn't sure if she was still contagious or not. Did dying cure tuberculosis?
"Thank you." 'beautiful' was not an adjective often associated with her, be it her name or otherwise.
"I have consumption. Or I had consumption, last I checked." She shrugged a shoulder. "I died and I'm not sure if I'm still contagious- better to play it safe."
"Luck you, then." Night Sky said, surprisingly good-natured despite the topic at hand. She reached up to slowly tug her scarf down, revealing the totally normal lower half of her face.
Then, she shrugged. "I kind of saw it coming, and I wasn't alone. Uh β I mean I had friends with me, but they didn't die." Awkward. Anyway. "What brings you out here? I heard the segments were dangerous, but the city is... not ideal for me, so I figured I'd risk it."
I'm glad you weren't alone, at least. But you needn't be alone now, either. My husband is a doctor, and he is in a situation where he'd be very unlikely to die from consumption, so he could examine you.
Death isn't permanent here, anyway. So if something did happen you're not doing much harm.
"Uhh... I mean, if he wants to, I guess?" Probably not the ideal answer with her obvious uncertainty, but she clearly hadn't heard such a suggestion in... ever.
Night Sky's brows furrowed. "Permanent or not, I don't really want to be the cause of someone dying, you know? I get your point though. Thank you."
[ Mmkay we're reverting to 1800s speak now ] What I mean is, he can use a special listening device to check your breathing. That will tell him if you are still sick, or if you're well. He also has healing magic that can be used to fix you up, just to be sure.
Because I'm not leaving you out here alone.
[ She extends a hand. ] Don't be nervous. I'll be all right. I'm an immortal, so at least you can be sure you won't hurt me. And if you like, I can call my husband. In fact, he'd be most upset with me if I didn't.
Healing magic she at least understood. The rest of it flew right over her head- leaving her to just nod politely. Whatever you say, ma'am.
Night Sky stared at the offered hand. "I don't mind being out here alone." Partially true. She didn't mind being in the forest in general, but she wouldn't mind company once in a while. She took Saya's hand anyway, getting the distinct feeling that arguing wasn't going to do her much good. "Well I don't want him to be upset with you so... okay."
"Yeah, I'll be here." Night Sky replied, still absolutely baffled by this woman's kindness toward a complete stranger. "Be kind of an asshole if I made you go through the trouble and just... left."
[ With that, she takes off flying again. And in not terribly long (a few hours), she returns with her arms full of a man with his own wings and white horns. ]
Night Sky? It's Saya. I brought my husband to meet you.
[Kantera enjoys flying with Saya even when she zooms, but this is a medical visit, so he has to be serious. He's wearing a stethoscope around his neck.]
Miss Night Sky, is it? Thank you for letting me check you over.
As promised, Night Sky hadn't wandered far, leaning against a nearby tree when Saya returned with her husband in tow. She stood up and moved to meet them, a hand raised in greeting.
"Hi.Thank you for coming all the way out here. You're both... really nice." Absurdly so, but she wasn't going to deny help if it was so graciously offered. "What do you need me to do?"
I'm going to use this stethoscope to listen to your breathing. I'll put this part here on your chest, and then I'll ask you to take some deep breaths for me. Okay?
Night Sky glanced at Saya's hand, then slowly reached out as if to take it. Touch was such a rarity for her - something she hadn't felt for so long before Tym and Viric showed up. That seemed so long ago, too.
"Okay." She replied, shrugging her cloak off so Kantera wasn't hindered by fur and leather, leaving just the worn tunic underneath. Night Sky looked and smelled like a woman who had lived in the woods - dirt speckled skin, leaves in her hair, the scent of wood and fire and moss. And when the stethoscope was set to her chest her breathing was just a little ragged - a perpetual wheeze that would not leave her even when the consumption had the moment she died.
[ Saya waits nearby, holding Night Sky's hand if she's nervous, otherwise just waiting and trying to project calm confidence, which she has in spades about Kantera's medical care. ]
Night Sky held Saya's hand both to quell her nerves, and simply because it felt nice. She cocked her head at the diagnosis. "Wait... seriously?" almost too good to to be true, she thought. "Kind of sucks I had to die to solve that problem but, uh, thank you."

Why would it be better for me? Being far away from others has never brought me anything but misery.

Date: Mar. 29th, 2023 02:10 pm (UTC)Even if you still had it, you can't hurt me. I don't get illnesses like that. And I heal instantly, so if I did get it no damage would be done.
It must be lonely to have to separate yourself. And I'm sorry you died. [ Night Sky is not the first person she met who died, so. ]
